Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. -- Lauren Stanford continued to climb in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's volleyball history books Saturday, although her University of Lynchburg team fell in four sets, 21-25, 25-18, 25-4, 25-11, at Mary Washington in a non-conference match.
The senior libero led the Hornets (15-10) with 22 digs to reach the 1,900 mark for her career and move into third in the category in the ODAC's 44-year history. Stanford set Lynchburg's career dig mark earlier this season.
Junior middle Natalie Lavelle recorded a team-high seven kills to go with a block and an ace as Lynchburg jumped on the Eagles (13-12) in the first set, ripping off an 11-4 run midway through to take control.
Though the Hornets finished off the set for an early lead, UMW regained momentum with a 6-0 run just before set's end that set the tone for the remainder of the match.
Savannah Powers tallied 17 kills and eight aces to lead the way for the Eagles.
Lynchburg will close out the regular season Friday, Nov. 1 with a home match against NCAA Division II opponent Virginia State before preparing for Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament play.
