Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team won its home Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener in convincing fashion with a 4-0 victory over Bridgewater Saturday afternoon on Shellenberger Field.
After a slow start in the scoreless first half, Lynchburg (5-3-1, 1-1 ODAC) saw four Hornets score in the second half. Sophomore Amanda Wigboldy connected on a shot off a corner kick from senior Sarah Barnes to break the scoreless tie.
Shortly after Wigboldy's goal, Barnes scored the Hornets' second goal on an assist from Alyssa Rudy, putting the Hornets up 2-0.
Lynchburg kept up its barrage of shots, totaling 20 in the second half alone, with two more finding the back of the net. Georgie Duggan put the Hornets up 3-0 after she connected on an assist from Taylor Stevens. Lynchburg would seal the victory with a late second-half goal from Stevens, assisted by Emily Santana.
The Hornets outshot the Eagles (3-5-2, 0-2), 27-7, with 13 of those on frame.
Caitlin Dorsch made four saves in the win and recorded her third shutout of the season.
Lynchburg will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 9 with another ODAC match as they take on the WildCats of Randolph College at 4 p.m. at home.
