Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's soccer team fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, in overtime Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Dorsch played an exceptional game between the pipes, as she made seven saves on the day and held the Marlins to only one goal in regulation.
The Hornets (10-7-1, 5-5 ODAC) and the Marlins played an even match through the first half as it went to the break at a scoreless tie.
Virginia Wesleyan (11-3-3, 7-2-1) was on the board first with an unassisted goal from Mia Meinhardt to put the Marlins up 1-0.
Lynchburg answered back with their lone goal on the afternoon as senior Alyssa Rudy scored on a header after connecting on a Taylor Smith corner kick to knot the game up at 1-1.
Only a minute and three seconds into the first overtime period, the Marlins scored the golden goal to win the match 2-1.
The Lynchburg women's soccer team will be back in action as the eight seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament as they play host to ninth seeded Eastern Mennonite on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
