Lynchburg, Va. -- The No. 8-seeded University of Lynchburg women's soccer team defeated No. 9-seeded Eastern Mennonite, 4-0, Monday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament.

The Hornets (11-7-1) got on the board in the seventh minute on a goal from sophomore Amanda Wigboldy after an EMU foul at the top of the box led to a free kick. Wigboldy's shot hit the crossbar and then crossed the line to put Lynchburg on top, 1-0. Wigboldy scored again on a penalty kick after Dana Seavey drew a foul in the box in the 24th minute; Lynchburg carried that 2-0 lead into the half.

In the 48th minute, freshman Megan Dee scored on a header off a corner kick from sophomore Taylor Smith to extend the Hornets' lead to 3-0. Less than two minutes later, Dee scored her second goal of the match on an assist from senior Madalyn Amos to cement the Lynchburg victory.

The Lynchburg back line played outstanding defense as it recorded its seventh shutout of the season. Senior Caitlin Dorsch and sophomore Kate Duncan each recorded a save. 

The Hornet offense out-shot the Royals (10-7-1) 18-4 on the afternoon, with nine of them on frame.

The Lynchburg women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a trip to top-seeded Randolph-Macon College. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5-18, and children under 5 are free. Any students of participating schools who have valid ID are also free. The match begins at 3:30 p.m. on the R-MC Soccer Field.
