Atlanta, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team lost a thriller in double overtime to Emory University Saturday afternoon at Woodruff P.E. Center Soccer Field.

Emory opened up the scoring in the first half after a corner on a goal from Shivani Beall in the 20th minute after a deflection off a save by Hornet goalkeeper Caitlin Dorsch, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

After a Lynchburg foul, the Eagles Arielle Williamson scored on the free kick making the score 2-0 in Emory's favor. 

Dorsch was tested early, making nine saves on 10 shots-on-goal from the hard-charging Emory offense. The Eagles totaled 19 shots in the first half and 37 in the match.

Senior forward Alyssa Rudy cut the Emory lead in half with a 50th-minute goal on an assist from senior Monica Beck, making the score 2-1. It was her third goal of the 2019 campaign.

Lynchburg continued to pressure the Eagle defense but didn't break through until the final minute of regulation. After an Emory foul in the box, sophomore Amanda Wigboldy scored on a penalty kick goal, tying the game at 2-2.

Neither team broke through in the first 10-minute overtime period, but the Eagles didn't take long to end the match in the second OT. Just 1:48 into the final stanza, Caroline Kolski scored on an assist from Arielle Williamson. 

Lynchburg's women's soccer team will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga.
