Men's soccer plays CNU to scoreless draw

Box Score

Newport News, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie on the road at Christopher Newport Wednesday evening.

The Hornets preserved their third shutout of the 2019 season despite facing 16 shots, five of which came in the 20 golden-goal overtime minutes.

Lynchburg earned eight corner kicks in the match but managed just four shots, two of which were on goal and saved by Captains keeper Justin Piercy.

Hornets keeper Kyle Gallagher made three saves of his own between the pipes, the biggest of which came in the 107th minute. That sequence marked CNU's best chance to end the match, as the Captains (3-1-2) nearly snuck a ball across 2 minutes earlier, but Lynchburg's defense cleared the ball off the line.

The Hornets put a ball on frame in OT as well, but Ayat Mohamed's 92nd-minute shot was saved.

Lynchburg (3-2-1) will be back on the road Saturday in Washington, D.C., for a 1 p.m. tilt with Catholic. The Cardinals received votes in the latest D3soccer.com poll.
