Box Score 2 Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg volleyball team posted a 1-1 record in Saturday afternoon's tri-match in Turner Gymnasium. Lynchburg lost the first match, 3-1, to Southern Virginia University but came back to win the second match 3-0 agaisnt the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University.
The senior class once again led the way for the Hornets (8-4) as Sydney Frink finished the afternoon with 22 kills, while Lauren Stanford came up with 40 digs, and Erin Farina added in 32 assists and 13 digs.
Lynchburg opened up with a tough 25-20, 25-21, 25-20, 29-27 loss to Southern Virginia in which Frink totaled 11 kills and 25 digs while Stanford notched 25 digs of her own. Farina contributed 17 assists and nine digs.
In the later contest, the Hornets came out on top with a clean 25-18, 25-23, 26-24 sweep of Mary Baldwin. Lynchburg saw contributions from freshmen Abbi Leeper and Calli Clevinger as Leeper gave the Hornets seven kills (and totaled 22 kills on the day) while Clevinger added 10 kills of her own and a total of 15 on the afternoon.
Lynchburg's volleyball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 25 with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup at Bridgewater.
