Box Score Winchester, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team erased a two-set deficit Saturday to claim a five-set thriller over Shenandoah, 24-26, 16-25, 25-14, 25-22, 15-10, in a key Old Dominion Athletic Conference match.
Abbi Leeper and Mya Green each logged double-doubles for Lynchburg for the second-straight time out. Leeper totaled 14 kills and 21 digs, both match-highs for the Hornets, while Green totaled 42 assists and 14 digs. Emma Drake and Josey Walton both reached double figures in kills with 13 and 12, respectively, while Drake added five blocks. Annie Tynes and Jordan Bartemeyer each dug out 14 SU attack attempts.
Lynchburg got off to a slow start, falling in the first two sets, but the Hornets pulled together as the match wore on. The visitors jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third and went wire-to-wire, highlighted by four kills from Walton.
The fourth set was a dogfight. Lynchburg opened up a 16-11 lead, but SU hung around and cut the lead to 24-22 before Leeper's kill forced a tiebreaking fifth set.
Lynchburg dominated the fifth, collecting three blocks and holding Shenandoah to a -.043 hitting percentage to cement the road win.
The Hornets improve to 9-10 on the season and climb above .500 in conference play at 5-4 on the season. Lynchburg will look for a third consecutive road victory Tuesday with a trip across town to visit Randolph College at 6 p.m.
