Box Score Lexington, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team's away-from-home struggles continued Saturday with a 3-1 loss at the hands of No. 1-ranked Washington and Lee in a matchup of Old Dominion Athletic Conference powers.
The Generals scored once in the first half and twice more after the break, negating a Luke Mega goal that got Lynchburg on the board in the 55th minute.
It was Lynchburg's third consecutive loss on the road and the Hornets' second of the season at W&L; the first was a 2-1 overtime decision on September 11 that did not count toward the ODAC standings. Saturday's result did.
Washington and Lee got out to an early lead thanks to a fourth-minute goal by Weyimi Agbeyegbe, but Lynchburg's defense locked down the nation's top-ranked team for much of the remainder of the first half. Hornet goalkeeper Justin Ennis saved the other four shots sent his way in the meantime, but the Generals broke through again on a 43rd-minute strike by Tyler Smith to lead 2-0 into halftime.
After the break, Mega netted his fifth goal of the season thanks to a Manzi Shalita assist in the 55th minute to halve the lead.
The Hornets (5-4-1, 1-1 ODAC) sustained pressure throughout the early part of the second half but were unable to break through again, and W&L turned the tables for an insurance goal in the 89th minute, securing the result.
The loss was Lynchburg's third-straight against their rivals from Lexington, and the Hornets will face another tough road match in the mid-week, a Wednesday trip to Roanoke College for a 7 p.m. kick.
