Box Score 2 Owings Mills, Md. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team played a pair of thrilling five-set matches Saturday, topping Marymount, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-7, before falling to host Stevenson, 25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 17-25, 15-8, in a non-conference tri-match.
Junior outside Abbi Leeper led Lynchburg in the opening match, logging a career-high 30 digs to go along with a team-best 16 kills. Emma Drake chipped in 11 kills, six digs, and three blocks, while freshman middle Nicole Brice added seven kills and seven blocks.
It was the Hornets' first win over Marymount since the 2011 season, when Lynchburg topped the Saints in four.
In the late match against Stevenson, Lynchburg dropped the opener before coming back to tie the match in the second and the fourth.
Leeper led the Hornets with 12 kills and 20 digs (her third-straight double-double), while Alexis Horner added seven kills and seven blocks from the middle position. Mya Green chipped in 27 assists and eight digs for the Hornets.
Lynchburg is now 2-1 in five-set matches this season and moves to 1-2 in road contests. The Hornets are 6-9 overall in 2021.
