Robles, Foley score as men's soccer bests Hampden-Sydney

Box Score

Hampden Sydney, Va. -- Kenny Robles scored in the first half, Nick Foley scored in the second, and University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team came away with a 2-0 road victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Hampden-Sydney Saturday evening, running the Hornets' win streak to six matches.

Robles gave Lynchburg the early advantage in the 10th minute, taking the ball near the right sideline and driving through a seam in the Tiger defense before finishing low and left for his fourth goal of the season.

Meanwhile, the Hornet defense held Hampden-Sydney without a shot in the first half, protecting the 1-0 lead into intermission.

Early in the second half, Nick Foley added insurance for Lynchburg. The graduate student chased down a loose ball in the box and finished it just under the crossbar for a 2-0 Hornets lead in the 47th minute, and that's all the visiting team needed.

Goalkeeper Justin Ennis made a save in his only opportunity, playing part in the Hornets' fourth shutout of the season, and the visitors held a 13-9 advantage on shots in the match.

The Hornets (11-4-1, 7-1 ODAC) are unbeaten in their last seven trips to Hampden-Sydney, a streak dating back to 2011, and Lynchburg extended its win streak to six matches -- all of them ODAC contests. The team will put that streak to the test Tuesday in its regular-season finale, a 7 p.m. kick against Bridgewater at home on Shellenberger Field. The program will celebrate the class of 2022 prior to the match.
