Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team dropped a late-season non-conference match Tuesday evening, falling 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 to Christopher Newport at home.
The Hornets got 15 assists, five digs, and three kills from Mya Green, while Abbi Leeper led the way at the net with seven kills and two blocks.
Christopher Newport jumped out to an early lead in the first set and won the opener wire-to-wire. Lynchburg rallied in the second as the two teams traded blows in the early going. The Captains uncorked five-point run to lead 14-9 and force a Lynchburg timeout and led the rest of the way.
In the third, the Hornets again led early, 5-3, but CNU ripped off a 6-0 run to force another Hornet timeout. Lynchburg battled back to take a 17-16 lead on a Captains attack error, but the visitors won six of the final seven points to cinch the match.
Jordan Bartemeyer and Flinn Christian contributed nine digs apiece for Lynchburg, Emma Drake totaled four kills and three blocks, and Princess Salifou had three kills and four blocks.
The Hornets (10-11) have a quick turnaround, playing host to Hollins in a return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The team will celebrate Senior Night prior to the match.
