Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team cruised to a 25-8, 25-8, 25-15 sweep of Hollins Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
The Hornets hit a scalding .383 in the match, their second-best team effort of the season, highlighted by Abbi Leeper's 11 kills and .667 hitting percentage. Annie Tynes had a team-high nine digs and three aces, and Emma Drake added eight kills.
Lynchburg came out swinging, hitting .455 with 13 kills in the first set. The Hornets jumped out to a 17-4 lead before Hollins called a timeout. HU cut the deficit to 19-8, but Lynchburg then ripped off a 6-0 run to claim an early lead, the final point coming on a Michaela Cox ace.
The hosts pulled ahead again early in the second and rolled to victory. The third set was close early with Lynchburg holding an 8-6 lead, but the Hornets took control in the ensuing action, putting the match away on a Nicole Brice and Emma Drake block.
Prior to the match, the Hornets honored the senior class of 2022: Tynes, Flinn Christian, Josey Walton, Drake, and Khoury May.
Lynchburg (11-11, 7-4 ODAC) will take the No. 5 seed into the upcoming conference tournament and will compete in the quarterfinal round on the road at the fourth seed on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The league office will announce the bracket Saturday after the conclusion of regular-season play around the league.
