Box Score Bridgewater, Va. -- Despite double-doubles from Abbi Leeper and Mya Green and 10 kills by Emma Drake, University of Lynchburg's volleyball season came to an end Wednesday in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference quarterfinals with a 25-17, 18-25, 25-16, 25-18 loss to Bridgewater.
The fifth-seeded Hornets looked good in the early going, jumping out to a 10-7 lead in the first set following a BC attack error, but the host Eagles rallied for a 10-1 run and never looked back for a first-set advantage.
Leeper took charge for the Hornets in the second set, putting down five kills on 12 swings, and Drake, Nicole Brice, and Princess Salifou notched three kills apiece to help Lynchburg even the match at a set each.
Bridgewater, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, locked down defensively in the third, totaling six blocks and holding the visitors to a -.021 attack percentage to retake the lead with a 25-16 set win. The Eagles then closed out the match in the fourth.
Leeper finished with 14 kills and 17 digs -- her seventh double-double of the season -- and Flinn Christian led the back row with a team-best 26 digs. Green chipped in 37 assists and 16 digs, and Jordan Bartemeyer and Annie Tynes added 12 digs each.
Lynchburg finished the season with an 11-12 record overall, 7-5 in ODAC play. The Hornets will now await the announcement of postseason awards, starting with the all-conference teams this weekend.
