Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball season came to a close Wednesday evening in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16 loss to sixth-seeded Randolph-Macon inside Turner Gymnasium.
The third-seeded Hornets got 18 kills from sophomore Abbi Leeper and 18 assists from junior Khoury May, but the Yellow Jackets served up 12 aces and blocked 10 Lynchburg attacks to control the match.
Three Hornets -- Leeper, junior Flinn Christian, and senior Sarah Connolly (a career-high) -- had 14 digs apiece, and junior Annie Tynes also reached double-digit digs with 12.
After R-MC took the first set convincingly, Lynchburg responded to win the second, 25-23, and looked on their way to a second win of the season over their rivals from Ashland. Leeper had seven kills in the second.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the third and took back the lead with a near wire-to-wire win. In the fourth, R-MC again led early, 6-2, but Lynchburg rallied to tie the set at 6-6 and 8-8. The Yellow Jackets took the lead with a 7-1 run and held on for victory.
Lynchburg finishes the 2020-21 season, the first under head coach Hannah Givens, with a 9-7 record and posted an 8-3 mark in ODAC play, their most conference wins since 2016.
