Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team fell into a three-goal hole in the first half and couldn't quite climb out Saturday, dropping a 3-2 decision to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Washington and Lee.
The Generals scored in the 15th, 18th, and 37th minutes to take early command of the match.
Lynchburg clawed back to make it a 3-1 game by halftime thanks to sophomore midfielder Carter Averette's 41st-minute strike.
After sustained pressure for much of the second half, sophomore forward Luke Mega scored off a rebounded save in the 80th minute to cut the deficit to a single goal.
Lynchburg managed a few offensive possessions in the final two minutes but could not find a way to shoot toward tying the match, and the Generals escaped Shellenberger Field with a key conference victory.
The Hornets celebrated Senior Day prior to the match, recognizing the Class of 2021 -- Bergen Campbell, Nick Foley, Kyle Gallagher, Bhayle Kearns, Ben Mackey, and Carter Sadin -- for their contributions to the program. The sextet was a part of Lynchburg's 2017 ODAC championship team and has helped Lynchburg to 45 victories over the past three-plus seasons.
Lynchburg's men (5-3-1, 5-2-1 ODAC) will await the announcement of the ODAC tournament field to find out their next match. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Tuesday, April 6 at high seeds.
