Virginia Beach, Va. -- The fifth-seeded University of Lynchburg women's soccer team fell to Virginia Wesleyan University, 1-0, on the road in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference quarterfinal round of the championship tournament Tuesday evening.

The Hornets (5-4) found themselves down early as the Marlins (6-2-1) scored the game's lone goal in the 23rd minute of action after Virginia Wesleyan's Carleigh Van Reenan found the back of the Lynchburg net on an assist from Kennedi Anders to put Virginia Wesleyan on top.

The second half was scoreless as Virginia Wesleyan was unable to add to its lead, and Lynchburg could not get a shot between the uprights. The Hornets' lone shot on goal came in the 85th minute as Alyssa Damato aimed for the bottom of the Marlins' net, but the attempt was saved by Virginia Wesleyan keeper.

Lynchburg's goalkeeper Katie Pierson recorded five saves in six chances. Laura Mason recorded a lone save in her only opportunity of the match. 

The Lynchburg women's soccer team finished the season with a final record of 5-4 and will await the announcement of postseason awards in the coming weeks.
