Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Abbi Leeper and Taylor Breeden collected double-doubles, leading University of Lynchburg's volleyball team to a 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 win over Randolph-Macon Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak to the perennial power Yellow Jackets.
Leeper, a sophomore outside, tallied 11 kills and 18 digs, both team-highs, while Breeden, the team's freshman setter, had 16 assists and 12 digs.
The Hornets kept the first set close until R-MC uncorked a 5-0 run to lead 18-13 and held on for an early advantage.
Lynchburg responded with tremendous defensive play in the second, leaping out to a 15-8 lead on a five-serve run from junior libero Flinn Christian to cruise to victory, evening the match.
The Hornets took control early again in the third, leading 5-1 thanks to a service run by Leeper. The Yellow Jackets closed the gap to 10-10 but never could claim the lead, and a kill from Leeper put the Hornets ahead by a set.
Lynchburg also controlled the early portion of the fourth set, leaping ahead 9-3 after back-to-back kills by Josey Walton and Emma Drake, but Randolph-Macon began to climb back into things late. With Lynchburd leading 21-13, the Yellow Jackets regained serve on a Hornets service error, and Madison Warlick helped R-MC close the gap to 21-19 before Lynchburg finally stopped the run by way of Walton's kill. A Yellow Jackets attack error and Leeper's 11th kill brought Lynchburg to match point, and an R-MC service error sealed the deal.
Walton chipped in a season-high eight kills and one block, while freshman middle Princess Salifou added four kills and three blocks for Lynchburg.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-4 on the season and 5-1 in ODAC competition. The Hornets will look to improve that mark Saturday with a home tri-match featuring Emory & Henry and Shenandoah.
