Box Score 2 Mechanicsburg, Pa. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team dropped a pair of hard-fought matches Saturday on the road, falling to Gettysburg, 25-11, 25-18, 27-25, and Messiah, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, at MU's non-conference tri-match.
The Hornets got 43 kills from Flinn Christian and 17 kills from Khoury May in the three matches.
Starting off the day with Gettysburg, Lynchburg played its worst set of the day to lose 25-11 in the opening stanza. The Hornets weren't able to muster much in the second set either, totaling a -0.176 hitting percentage.
In the third, however, Lynchburg (1-5) managed a tougher effort. The Hornets fell behind 13-9 but battled back to tie the set at 18-18 after a Nicole Brice kill. Lynchburg tied the set four more times before the Bullets won the final two points to seal the sweep.
Christian finished with 20 digs in the match.
In Saturday's nightcap, the Hornets gave host Messiah a better test. After dropping the first set, Lynchburg topped the Falcons, 25-23, in the second. MU took the final two stanzas to take the match.
May tallied 11 kills and a career-high 15 digs, while Mya Green had 18 assists, 10 digs, and four aces. Josey Walton tacked on 11 kills and two blocks for the Hornets.
Lynchburg will return home Wednesday to open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday, Sept. 15 with Guilford at 6:30 p.m.
