Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team opened the Old Dominion Athletic Conference portion of the 2021 schedule in style Wednesday night, sweeping a 25-17, 25-8, 25-14 decision over Guilford inside Turner Gymnasium.
The Hornets hit a scalding .388 as a team in the victory, led by a nine-kill effort from Abbi Leeper. Nicole Brice, Emma Drake, Princess Salifou, and Josey Walton each had five kills for Lynchburg, and Flinn Christian collected 11 digs.
Lynchburg raced out to a 20-10 lead in the first set, thanks in large part to three over passes that Brice put down in the early going. The Quakers closed the gap to 24-17, but after a Hornets timeout, Leeper registered a kill on another over pass to seal the set.
The second set was all Hornets. The teams opened tied, 3-3, but Lynchburg ended the set on a 20-5 run.
Lynchburg put the third away early, beginning the set by winning nine of the first 10 balls and closing the match comfortably.
Taylor Breeden made 17 assists for the Hornets, while Mya Green added 10 helpers. Lynchburg also dominated the serve, combining for 12 aces; Brice led the way with four, and Leeper and Breeden chipped in three each.
Lynchburg (2-5, 1-0 ODAC) will return to Turner Gym's Wayne Proffitt Court on Saturday for a tri-match with Virginia Wesleyan and Averett. Saturday's action starts at 1 p.m.
