Box Score Atlanta, Ga. -- University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team scored twice in the first half en route to a 2-1 road victory over Oglethorpe Friday evening.
Brennan Lagana and Luke Mega each scored for the Hornets, and Kyle Gallagher made five saves to keep the Stormy Petrels at bay.
The Hornets dominated the first 45 minutes, outshooting their hosts by an 8-5 margin and earning two corner kicks to Oglethorpe's none. Lagana put Lynchburg on the board in the sixth minute with an unassisted score, but the Stormy Petrels evened the score exactly 3 minutes later when Abraham Lopez beat the Hornet defense.
Mega's 28th-minute goal on a Kenny Robles assist put the Hornets ahead for good.
Lynchburg took the 2-1 lead into halftime and withstood the Stormy Petrel attack in the second stanza. Oglethorpe earned five corner kicks after the break to the Hornets' zero and out-shot the visitors 7-5, but Gallagher saved both attempts on goal to preserve the Lynchburg lead and put the Hornets back into the win column.
The Hornets will look to make it two in a row in the Peach State Saturday at 7 p.m. against Emory University.
