Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Three University of Lynchburg volleyball players logged double-digit kills, but the Hornets fell in four sets to defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Washington and Lee, 21-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-21, Wednesday night inside a raucous Turner Gymnasium.
Josey Walton put down a team-best 15 kills on the evening, followed by 14 kills and 11 digs from Abbi Leeper, and 12 kills from Emma Drake. Taylor Breeden also logged a double-double with 27 assists and 13 digs; Mya Green chipped in 22 assists, eight digs, and three aces; and Flinn Christian added a team-best 18 digs.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair in the early going, but Lynchburg took control on a 4-0 run with Nicole Brice serving midway through for a 17-12 lead and force a W&L timeout. The Generals rallied back to cut the deficit to 21-20, but an Alexis Horner kill regained the momentum as the Hornets took the first set.
The second set was a dandy as well; Lynchburg jumped out to an 8-4 advantage on another Brice serving run. W&L rallied back to tie the set at 8-8, and it was close throughout; the set wound up tied, 25-25, and the Generals won the final two points to even the match.
Washington and Lee jumped out to an early lead in the third and won the set wire-to-wire and did the same in the fourth to ice the match.
Lynchburg fell to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the ODAC with the loss. The Hornets will take a break from conference play Saturday in Owings Mills, Md., with a tri-match against Marymount and Stevenson.
