Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer welcomed Averett to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 7-0 victory Saturday evening.
A trio of Hornets scored two goals each, and Meghan Lauder scored her first-goal of the season as Lynchburg completed its seventh shutout.
With the remnants of Hurricane Ian hovering over the Hill City, kickoff was pushed back to 6 p.m. to try and avoid the inclement weather.
Even with rain softly falling on Shellenberger Field, the Hornets jumped out to an early lead. Sydney Dombrovskis struck first. She then assisted on Victoria Newman's score in the 32nd minute. With 10 minutes before half, McKenna Dahm ripped a shot off the crossbar, and Savannah Harper cleaned up the rebound with a header.
The Hornets kept the intensity up throughout the whole second half. In similar fashion to the first half, Dombrovksis scored the initial goal out of the break with a laser from 25 yards out. Newman and Harper also scored their second goals of the match in the second half. Harper's second score came with seven seconds left in the match off a cross sent in by Sydney Crocetta.
Meredith Bowers and Kate Shepherd helped Jade Lecklider shut out the Cougars in net.
Lynchburg (4-1-4) hosts top-ranked Christopher Newport on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m.
