Women's soccer wins sixth-straight ODAC match

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer won its fourth match in a row Saturday evening with a 3-0 victory over Guilford on Homecoming.

Prior to the match, the team celebrated six seniors: Averey Wyscarver, Maddy Myers, Lindsey Grady, Megan Dee, Alyssa Damato, and Sophie Walsh. The seniors in the starting lineup helped Lynchburg to victory marking the Class of 2023's 40th win as a group.

The Hornets dominated possession right out of the gate with Damato taking a shot on frame 2:41 into play. Lynchburg took 10 more shots in the opening 30 minutes but were unable to break through.

However, after a Guilford midfielder accumulated her second yellow and was ejected with a red card in the 35th minute, Lynchburg was able to net the go-ahead score. Sydney Dombrovskis buried a header off a cross from Ella Tampio-Iorns shortly after going a player-up. Dombrovskis is now in a three-way tie with Mac Joly and Megan Dee for the team lead in goals.

Two minutes after halftime, Maddy Myers lined up for Lynchburg's third corner of the match. She sent the cross in and instead of finding any of her teammates, the senior hit the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The Hornets earned another unique goal in the 65th minute after Claire Lloyd's shot was blocked, and a Guilford player netted an own-goal in favor of the home team.

Meredith Bowers subbed in for Jade Lecklider in the 72nd minute, and the duo combined for Lynchburg's 11th shutout of the season. The Hornets have not allowed a goal to a conference opponent during the 2022 calendar.

Lynchburg (8-2-4, 6-0 ODAC) travels to Virginia Beach on Wednesday, Oct. 19 for a pivotal matchup with Va. Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
