Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Abbi Leeper put down 10 kills, Kailey Keough and Sophia Rucker added nine apiece, and University of Lynchburg's volleyball team ran its win streak to five straight matches Saturday morning by means of a 25-14, 25-17, 25-20 straight-sets victory over Ferrum.
Lynchburg hit .380 as a team in the match, its most efficient offensive performance of the season, and the Hornets served up nine aces. Setter Mya Green had four of those aces to go with a match-best 26 assists and five digs. Cassi Blackmore led the back row with 15 digs for the Hornets.
Lynchburg leapt out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and never looked back, cruising to victory in the opening frame of the day. The Hornets then fell behind in the early going of the second before a timeout helped the host team to regroup. A Green kill tied the set at 13-13, part of a 9-2 run that put Lynchburg back in control; the Hornets cruised to victory from there and opened the third with a 4-0 run, leading wire-to-wire in the clincher.
Keough added seven digs, two assists, and an ace to her stat line, while Rucker added two blocks and an ace of her own.
Lynchburg (11-9, 5-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) has dropped just one set over its five-match tear of victories. The Hornets will put that streak on the line Wednesday with a break from league play at Christopher Newport. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Newport News.
