Box Score Newport News, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team saw its five-match win streak abruptly ended Wednesday with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 sweep at the hands of host Christopher Newport Wednesday evening.
Mya Green's double-double – 17 assists, 10 digs – led the way for the Hornets, while Bree Spainhour collected a match-best seven kills for the Hornets. Cassi Blackmore led Lynchburg with 18 digs.
CNU, which received 11 kills and eight digs from Maddie Carter, battled back from an early 4-1 deficit to take the lead at 7-6, never looked back after the early going. The Captains finished the opening set on a 10-4 run and never trailed again after falling behind, 3-2, early in the second.
Morgan Clarke chipped in 10 digs and an ace for the Hornets, while Kailey Keough added 10 digs, three kills, and two blocks.
Lynchburg (11-10) will continue its break from conference play with a home tri-match Saturday. The Hornets will play host to Virginia University of Lynchburg at 11 a.m. and Virginia State at 3 p.m. The two opponents will compete against one another in the middle match at 1 p.m.
