Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer goes into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament on the right foot after defeating Randolph-Macon 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
Maddy Myers and Mac Joly netted second-half goals to lift the Hornets past the Yellow Jackets and close out the regular season in style.
Lynchburg dominated for the first 15 minutes totaling seven shots to Randolph-Macon's one. However, both teams went quiet for most of the rest of the opening half. Lynchburg's only other shot came with five minutes to go when Ella Tampio-Iorns had a nice opportunity in front of the net.
Jade Lecklider did not face a shot in the first half but was quickly called on to stop three shots just 13 minutes into the second.
As Lecklider did her best to keep the match tied, Myers ended Lynchburg's three-match scoring drought on the other side of the field. In the 59th minute, the senior dribbled to her right and fired a shot from 20 yards out putting Lynchburg on top.
Shortly after, Leilianis Irigoyen played a ball in from the far sideline causing a frenzy in front of the net. Megan Dee back-heeled the loose ball to Joly who finished from inside the six.
The Hornets held on to the lead for the remainder of regulation thanks to a missed penalty kick from R-MC in the 68th, and Lecklider's fourth and final save in the 88th.
Lynchburg did not allow a goal to a conference opponent on Shellenberger Field all season long. The Hornets have only been scored on once at home in 2022: a late, second-half goal from the top-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport.
Lynchburg (9-3-6, 7-1-2 ODAC) secured a home ODAC tournament match with the victory. Stay tuned to ODAConline.com for the full ODAC women's soccer tournament bracket.
