Box Score Harrisonburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team ended the regular season on a high note Saturday, earning a four-set victory on the road at Eastern Mennonite, 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22.
Abbi Leeper had a team-best 12 kills for the Hornets, while Princess Salifou totaled 10 kills and three blocks. Mya Green helped the offense run to the tune of 38 assists, and the sophomore also served four aces in the victory. Bree Spainhour contributed eight kills and four blocks.
The first set was back and forth for its entirety. EMU held a 22-21 lead before the Hornets scored the final four points – two on blocks by Spainhour, Sophia Rucker, and Kailey Keough – to win the opener.
Lynchburg cruised out to a 6-1 lead in the second, forcing a Royals timeout, but EMU climbed back in. The Hornets built two more leads during the set, and the third one stuck. A block by Rucker and Leeper sealed the set victory.
After EMU took the third, Lynchburg regained its form midway through the fourth. With the Hornets trailing 16-15, Lynchburg rattled off a 10-4 run to claim the match.
With the victory, the Hornets (15-11, 7-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) laid claim to the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ODAC tournament and will pay a visit to third-seeded Washington and Lee Wednesday night at 6:30 in the quarterfinal round.
