Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- McKenna Dahm scored twice, Alyssa Damato added the insurance goal, and the fourth-seeded University of Lynchburg women's soccer team cruised into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference semifinals Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 win over No. 5 seed Randolph-Macon.
Lynchburg will face off with Shenandoah, the No. 8 seed that upset top-seeded Bridgewater in penalty kicks, Friday at 3:30 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
After the beginning of the match began with relatively even ball possession, Lynchburg took control of the match as the clock crept toward halftime. That momentum built up to a goal in the 39th minute, when Emily Santana swung the ball from a wide position toward Dahm just outside the top of the box. The sophomore uncorked a shot that nestled under the crossbar for a 1-0 Hornets lead and Dahm's second score of the season.
Less than 3 minutes later, Dahm nearly doubled the Lynchburg advantage with another long laser of a shot that skipped off the crossbar for a goal kick. The Hornets took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Lynchburg continued to assert itself after the break, out-shooting the Yellow Jackets by an 11-2 margin in the final 45 minutes. But it wasn't until the 71st minute that the Hornets broke through to expand their lead. Just inside the box on the right side, a driving Dahm shot deflected off an R-MC defender and past the goalkeeper to double the lead.
In the 79th minute, Damato chased down a Santana through-ball near the left post, beating the keeper to the ball and finishing at close range to put the match out of reach.
Jade Lecklider at the Hornet defense held R-MC to just four shots in the match to close out their 15th shutout of the season. Lecklider saved both shots that went her direction.
The Hornets (10-3-6) will gear up for their first meeting with Shenandoah since March 21, 2021, a 5-0 Lynchburg victory on Senior Day. It will be SU's first trip to the ODAC semis since the 2016 season.
