Box Score Salem, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer played to its second draw of the season with a 0-0 final against Sewanee on Saturday afternoon.
At the 2022 Roanoke Showcase Invitational, Lynchburg squared off with The University of the South for the first of two matches on the weekend.
Maddy Myers took the first shot for the Hornets just 39 seconds into play, but her shot went wide left. The Hornets continued to pepper the net and outshot Sewanee 10-1 in the first half. Junior Jade Lecklider saved the only shot she faced in the opening 45, and the two teams went into halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Lynchburg once again limited Sewanee to one shot.
Despite not earning a chance on net in the final half, the Tigers threatened several times. Leilianis Irigoyen kept the match scoreless after making a slide tackle inside the box to quell off a Sewanee attack in the 57th minute. With 15 minutes remaining, Claire Lloyd successfully made a sliding attempt to clear the ball away from the goal line and preserve the tie.
Lynchburg also had its own scoring opportunities with two shots on goal and a corner kick in the final 20 minutes. Junior Ida Swisher paced the team with nine shots in total, and freshman Mac Joly led the Hornets with two shots on goal during the match.
Despite the flurry of shots and some late pressure, Lynchburg and The University of the South tied without finding the back of the net. Lecklider earned her second clean sheet of the season after making one save.
The Hornets (1-0-2) take on Albion in their second match of the invitational at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11.
