Cary, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team played to another draw Wednesday afternoon at William Peace, matching the Pacers by means of a 1-1 score.

Zach Whelan scored the Hornets' lone goal, the first of the match, in the 24th minute. Lynchburg drew a foul just on the offensive side of the pitch, and Carter Averette delivered the ensuing free kick perfectly into the box, where Whelan's leaping header propelled the ball into the goal.

Meanwhile, the Hornet defense kept William Peace off the board in the first 45 minutes, Justin Ennis saving the Pacers' lone shot on goal.

William Peace opened up the second half with pressure, earning a corner kick in the 51st minute that resulted in Donnie Leahy's equalizing goal.

Shortly after, Ennis made a key save that kept the match tied, and Lynchburg regained its footing. The Hornets outshot Peace by a 5-3 margin in the match's final 35 minutes but couldn't find the go-ahead goal.

Whelan registered a match-best four shots, three of which were on goal, while Ennis finished with three saves. Pacers keeper Tripp Kidd made six stops.

Lynchburg (2-0-3) will hit the road again Saturday for another out-of-conference matchup, this time heading to Frederick, Md. for a 1 p.m. first whistle at Hood.
