Box Score Charlotte, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of Emory University Sunday afternoon.
Sophie Walsh scored her first goal of the year in the 3-1 loss, and goalkeeper Jade Lecklider made four saves.
The Eagles struck first in the 14th minute with a goal from LJ Kolodge. The Emory score marked the first goal allowed by the Hornets in 450 minutes of gameplay.
However, the Hornets earned the equalizer later in the half. After a handball in the box, Sophie Walsh lined up for a penalty kick and buried it at the 36:20 mark. Walsh is the sixth-different goal scorer for the Hornets six matches into the season.
Emory came out firing in the second half and outshot Lynchburg 12-2. Lynchburg was outshot by its opponent for the first time this season.
Lecklider made two more saves in the second half, but Emory found the back of the net two more times and earned the 3-1 victory.
Lynchburg (2-1-3) looks to bounce back from its first defeat of the 2022 schedule with a matchup at Mary Washington on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
