Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team dropped a four-set thriller to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival and visiting Randolph-Macon Wednesday, 30-28, 25-22, 25-14, 25-13, in the Hornets' 2022 home-opener.
Mya Green had 32 assists and five aces to lead the way for the Hornets, while Abbi Leeper had a team-best 13 kills. Kailey Keough put down 10 kills to go with seven digs and two blocks, and Cassi Blackmore had 15 digs.
Lynchburg jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and led 20-15 before a Randolph-Macon timeout. The Yellow Jackets rebounded for a 22-21 lead, and then the match was on. The teams traded set points until R-MC's Grace Parker put down a kill followed by a Hornets attack error that gave the visitors the opening set.
The Hornets rebounded well in the second, again taking an early lead. Lynchburg stretched the advantage to as many as six points near the midpoint, but Randolph-Macon charged back late to make things interesting. Clinging to a 22-21 lead, Keough and Leeper put down kills for the Hornets before a R-MC attack error knotted the match at a set apiece.
The third and fourth sets, though, were all Yellow Jackets, as Randolph-Macon escaped the Hill City with the four-set victory. It was R-MC's first regular-season win in Turner Gymnasium since 2018.
Grace Parker had a match-best 31 kills for the Yellow Jackets and topped the 1,000-kill mark for her career.
Lynchburg (6-8, 2-3 ODAC) will hit the road for Harrisonburg Friday to look to right the ship at Eastern Mennonite. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
