Box Score Camden, N.J. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer wrapped up its road trip in New Jersey with a 2-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday evening.
Freshman Mac Joly netted her first-career goal, and Lynchburg's leading scorer from a season ago, Sydney Dombrovskis, got on the board as well.
After waiting 87 minutes before scoring their first goal during Friday's draw with Rowan, the Hornets wasted no time getting on the board against the Scarlet Raptors. In the 5th minute, Joly corralled a loose ball 30 yards from the net, dribbled into space, and finished the breakaway goal to open the scoring. The first-year from Mechanicsville, Va. grabbed her first-collegiate goal in her second-career start for Lynchburg.
Starting goalkeeper Jade Lecklider and the Lynchburg defense kept the Scarlet Raptors off the board all evening long. Lecklider earned her seventh-career shutout after putting up six clean sheets in 2021.
Dombrovskis sealed the match in the 73rd minute. While Rutgers-Camden's goalkeeper saved Dombrovskis' first shot from point-blank range, the sophomore buried the rebound into the back of the net for Lynchburg's second score. The forward scored seven goals with five assists in 2021.
The Hornets (1-0-1) return to Virginia to take on Sewanee in Salem on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m.
