Women's soccer secures No. 2 seed in ODAC tournament

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team secured the No. 2 seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament with a 3-0 win over Ferrum Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets extended their unbeaten streak to 12 matches beginning with a goal from Alix Allen in the 11th minute. Allen scored her first goal of the season off a corner sent in by McKenna Dahm. The Hornets went on to outshoot the Panthers 28-0 with nine on-target and four off the woodwork in the first half but did not score again in the first half.

The Hornets fired 25 more shots in the second half while holding the Panthers without an attempt. With seven more shots-on-goal, Lynchburg found the back twice more before time expired.

Victoria Newman found Leilianis Irigoyen for her first-collegiate score in the 47th minute. Newman earned her team-leading fifth assist when she crossed the ball through the box from the far corner. Zoe Villarreal left it for Irigoyen who connected on the other end for the easy score.

Allen scored her second goal of the day on another corner kick in the 88th minute. This time, it was Sydney Crocetta who fed Allen for the header on the set piece. It was Allen's first-career multigoal game.

Jade Lecklider, Meredith Bowers, and Kylie Cass all served time in goal, and Kate Shepherd appeared in the match as a defender despite typically suiting up as a keeper. None of the goalkeepers faced a shot.

Lynchburg's 53 shots marked its most in a match since firing 54 against Sweet Briar in 2019.

The Hornets (11-3-3, 7-0-3 ODAC) host Randolph-Macon in the ODAC quarterfinals for the second-consecutive year on Tuesday, Oct. 31. First-touch time is to be determined.
