Two goals from Dombrovskis highlight women's soccer's win

Salem, Va -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer junior Sydney Dombrovskis netted two goals in Lynchburg's 3-0 win over Penn St.-Harrisburg Saturday evening.

Playing at Kerr Stadium on Roanoke College's campus for the Roanoke Invitational, the Hornets posted their second-straight shutout of the season. Jade Lecklider made the start in goal and recorded one save. Kate Shepherd and Meredith Bowers also served time in goal to finish the shutout.

The Hornets only earned one corner kick in the match, but McKenna Dahm's cross from the flag in the 28th minute was fruitful enough. Casey deflected the cross down into a box busy with a frenzy of Hornets and PSU-Harrisburg defenders. Eventually, Dombrovskis got a foot on the loose ball and buried it into the back of the net. Casey's assist marks the first point of her All-American career.

Dombrovskis scored again in the second half when she pounced on an PSU-Harrisburg mistake, turned, and fired a long-distance shot past the goalkeeper. Dombrovskis now has three multigoal games in her career.

In between Dombrovkis' 14th and 15th-career scores, freshman Ainsley Yates tallied her first-collegiate goal in the 36th minute. Abbie Little made a long pass through midfield, and Yates made a touch to skip the ball into open space. The West End, N.C. native ripped a shot once she caught up to the ball, doubling Lynchburg's lead.

The Hornets held PSU-Harrisburg to three, unthreatening shots in the second half and earned their second victory on the year. The Hornets have not allowed a goal at Kerr Field in their last five matches there dating back to Sept. 5, 2021.

Lynchburg (2-0) makes its Shellenberger Field debut on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m. against defending national champion Johns Hopkins.
