Berea, Ky. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team dropped all three matches during its opening-weekend road trip to Berea.

Over the three matches, Kailey Keough led the Hornet offense with 35 kills, Cassi Blackmore contributed 63 digs, but the Hornets lost to Ashbury 3-2 on Friday night, 3-0 to Berea Saturday morning, and 3-2 to Wooster that afternoon.

Lynchburg jumped out to a lead in the first match Friday winning 25-23 in the first set over Ashbury. After Ashbury won the second, Keough tallied three kills in the third set to put Lynchburg back on top.

An ace from Keough tied the fourth set up 8-8, but Ashbury rattled off four-straight points afterwards and never relinquished the lead.

The Hornets controlled the fifth set early and led 5-3 thanks to Myranda Cummings' second block of the night. Later on, with Lynchburg trailing, a Bree Spainhour kill and two Ashbury mistakes helped Lynchburg tie the decisive set up at 11. However, Ashbury rattled off four-unanswered points to seal the victory in a tightly-contested match.

Tori Williamson impressed in her Hornet debut with nine kills. She had four more in Saturday's first match against Berea, but the Hornets fell in straight sets. Keough had eight kills, and Spainhour was right behind her with seven.

In the weekend's finale, the Hornets battled tough with the College of Wooster. After dropping the first set 26-24, the Hornets rallied and took the next two. Princess Salifou clinched the second set with an ace, and Mya Green had six assists and a kill in the third set. Green finished the weekend with 41 assists, and Jaina Leek totaled 51.

In the fourth, the Hornets came back from a five-point deficit eventually tying the match up at 23-23. Howver, the Scots earned the victory 25-23 before sealing the match 15-8 in the fifth set.

Lynchburg's freshmen totaled 34 kills across the three matches led by 23 from Williamson. Cummings, Ava Meinhardt, and Williamson played all 13 sets for the Hornets in their debuts.

Lynchburg (0-3) returns home for its home debut on Tuesday, Sept. 5 against Southern Virginia at 6 p.m.
