Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team fell in four sets to Randolph-Macon Wednesday night.
Bree Spainhour played her fifth match of the season with double-digit kills, Cassi Blackmore came up with 19 digs, and Mya Green served up two aces and 19 assists.
Beginning with a kill from Spainhour for their first point, the Hornets hit .308 in their first-set victory.
The first set featured 11 ties, with the last knotted score coming at 23-23 after a kill from Kailey Keough. With Keough on the ensuing serve, Ava Meinhardt got Lynchburg to set point with a kill, and the Hornets secured the set on a Yellow Jacket attack error.
After stealing the first set from the defending conference champions on their home court, the Hornets could not keep up with the Yellow Jackets in the next three sets. Randolph-Macon bounced black and increased its hitting percentage to .275 thanks in part to a .387 mark in the second set. R-MC took the final three sets to secure the victory by an average of nine points per set.
Meinhardt paired her three kills with five block assists as Lynchburg recorded six-total blocks on the night.
Lynchburg (3-5, 0-2 ODAC) stays on the road to take on Roanoke on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
