Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's soccer team (6-4-2) continues ODAC play at home this week with a match vs. the Averett Cougars (3-6-2) on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m.
In the six meetings between the two programs, Lynchburg has yet to lose a game. The Hornets have outscored the Cougars 33-1 in their six matches dating back to 2007.
The Cougars have started to find their rhythm as of late winning their past two games. However, it was preceded by a five-game losing skid that placed them towards the bottom of the conference standings. Nonetheless, the Cougars sport one of the top offenses in the ODAC, led by Celia de Diego. But the Averett defense has been the main area of concern, allowing just under three goals per game.
The Hornets enter this affair with their offense looking as good as it has all season. Lynchburg, currently on a two-game win streak, has outscored their opponents 6-0 in their past two affairs. This disparity has added to an extremely strong start to the season for Lynchburg, showcased by their scoring differential, 22-13, and conference record, 3-0-1. Madelyn Boyce has spearheaded the offensive effort for the Hornets, leading all scorers and T9th in the ODAC, with six goals this season.
Head Coach Dr. Todd Olen also has a chance to capture his 500th win with the Hornets in this contest. This accolade would add to a long list of achievements Olsen has accomplished during his tenure, such as a national title in 2014 and an ODAC, state, regional, and national coach of the year.
Following the midweek match, the Hornets will take on Randolph-Macon on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m. during Lynchburg's Homecoming weekend.
