Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team welcomes Hampden-Sydney to Shellenberger Field for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m.
The Hornets (7-2-4, 5-1-2) are coming off a tough skirmish with No. 20 Washington and Lee, which resulted in a draw with each side scoring once. Lynchburg took the advantage early in the second half, but the Generals equalized with just under 20 minutes to go. The Lynchburg squad wanted that victory, so there's no doubt the crew will be hungry for a win on Wednesday.
Since 1999, the Hornets own a 13-9-4 record in the series against Hampden-Sydney. Both times the two sides met in 2023 went Lynchburg's way, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 3-0 Hornet win in the ODAC Quarterfinal round. So far this season, the Tigers boast a conference record of 5-0-2 and an overall record of 7-3-3. Last time out, Hampden-Sydney claimed a 2-1 victory over Randolph.Â
Along with the squad leading the ODAC in goals allowed this season, junior netminder
Thomas Viscuso is fourth in the conference in save percentage (.781 percent) and second in clean sheets per game with a rate of .538. Viscuso and the tenacious Lynchburg defense go up against the fourth-highest scoring team in the conference. Hampden-Sydney averages 1.846 goals per game this season.
Following tomorrow's contest, the Hornets host their final regular season game of the season when Christopher Newport visits Shellenberger Field on Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m.
