Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team is set to compete against Ferrum on Wednesday, October 23 in Turner Gymnasium at 5 p.m. for the team's senior day.
The Hornets (13-11, 5-4) have competed against the Panthers almost every year and have won every match since 2002. The volleyball team has a win streak of 12 with 14 wins and 1 loss against Ferrum and a conference record of 6-0. The closest two matches were in 2006 and 2018, where Ferrum won 2 out of the 3 sets of the game.
The last match against the Panthers was in 2023 with a 3-1 final score. Junior Kailey Keough hit at .333 percent with 3.75 kills per set and sophomore Ava Meinhardt had five kills in the first set to add to her season-best of 14 kills that year. Meinhardt sits third in the ODAC blocks category standings with an average of .91 per set and the Hornets sit fifth in the overall standings.
The Panthers have a 6-12 win/loss record this year with 3-4 being home games and 3-5 being away games. Ferrum currently sits 12th in the ODAC standings for women's volleyball though they do sit in fifth in the opponent digs category. Freshman Bailey Terry also sits fifth in the blocks category with a .89 per set average.
This match is also the Hornets' senior day for 2 graduating seniors, outside hitter Sydney Phillips and setter Mya Green.
After this match up, the Hornets will be hitting the road to Danville, Va. to play Averett on Saturday, October 26 at 11 a.m.
