Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team is set to welcome neighboring ODAC rival Randolph to Shellenberger field on Wednesday, October 9 at 7 p.m.
The Hornets (5-2-2, 1-1-0) come into the contest having won back-to-back games against conference foes Averett and Randolph-Macon, both resulting in 2-0 triumphs. Lynchburg has claimed victory in five of its last six outings. The last nine meetings between the two sides have all ended in wins for the Hornets, most recently with a commanding 3-0 victory on Oct. 11, 2023. Since 2007, the Hornets own a 17-2-3 record in the series versus the Wildcats.Â
Randolph comes into Wednesday's contest with a 3-3-5 record and a record of 2-1-1 in the ODAC. Last time out, the Wildcats took down Shenandoah on the road, 1-0. Sophomore forward Anelka Ngoy paces the Randolph offense with two goals on the season, both of which were game-winners including one in the squad's most recent win.
This past week, junior goalkeeper
Thomas Viscuso earned ODAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career after stopping seven shots across two shutout wins last week. The Manassas, Va. native has a 0.68 goals against average on the season, which ranks third in the ODAC and 34th across Division III. In the last two games, fifth year
Zach Whelan has come up clutch, scoring what served as the game-winning goals in each of the two affairs.
After this midweek clash, Lynchburg will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to hit the pitch against Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, October 12 at 6 p.m.Â
