Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team is set to compete against Virginia Wesleyan in Turner Gymnasium this Wednesday, October 9 at 6 pm.
The last time the Hornets and the Marlins competed against each other was last year, where the Marlins won 3-0. The Hornets have fallen in all contests with the Marlins since 2018, but claimed two wins in 2016 and 2017. In 2016 the Hornets swept the match with a 3-0 final score. In 2017 the Hornets won 3-2 with 61 kills.Â
Coming into the match, the Hornets are sitting in 4th in the ODAC standings and have two players in the top 5 for the hitting percentage category. Freshmen, Leah DiNardo has a hitting percentage of .308 and sophomore Ava Meinhardt has a .294 hitting percentage on the season. Junior Jaina Leek is sitting in the 3rd spot under the Assists category with an average of 6.81 per set.Â
The Marlins have 18 wins over the Hornets with a 7-2 home record and a 9-4 away record. Winning the past 6 matches this season, they sit in the number 2 spot in the ODAC standings and top 5 standings in all other categories.Â
The Hornets will be on the road following Wednesday's outing, headed to Harrisonburg, Va. for a match against Eastern Mennonite on October 12 at 2 p.m.
