Lynchburg, Va. -- No. 1 seed Lynchburg men's soccer team (11-2-4)(7-1-2) is set to host No. 4 Hampden-Sydney (9-5-3)(6-2-2) for the ODAC semifinal Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 7 pm.
These two squads met a few weeks ago on Oct. 23, in a match that resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Hornets on Shellenberger. In this contest,
William Casey and
Zach Whelan each deposited a goal for the Lynchburg win.
The Hornets are coming off a 2-0 victory in their quarterfinal match versus Eastern Mennonite. In their previous contest,
Manzi Shalita and
Chris Wiley recorded the two goals that gave Lynchburg their semifinal bid. This goal placed Shalita as the team leader with five on the season. He has recorded three goals in the past three matches on just 10 shots during that stretch.
While Lynchburg continues to be defined by their stout defense, the Hornet offense has had one of their best streaks of the season as of late. For the first time this year, Lynchburg has record two goals in their past four games, outscoring their opposition 8-2 during this run.
In their quarterfinal matchup, Hampden-Sydney defeated Roanoke 2-1 on their home field. Tied at 1-1 in the waning moments of the contest, Pierce Boerner found the back netting off an assist from Mo Wumpini for the game winning at the 89 minuet mark.
