Lynchburg, Va.
-- The No. 2 seed Lynchburg Hornets (12-4-3)(8-0-2) are set to welcome No. 3 seed Virginia Wesleyan (9-5-3)(8-2) for a spot in the ODAC championship.
Tickets will be sold online through
HomeTown Ticketing. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-17, and free for students of participating colleges as well as children under five.
This will also be a rematch of the 2022 and 2021 ODAC championships. Two years ago the Hornets defeated the Marlins in PKs, and the year prior VWU took home the hardware with a 1-0 final score.
Earlier this season, the two teams met in Virginia Beach, where Lynchburg took the win, 2-0.
Madelyn Boyce and
Leilianis Irigoyen were the two Hornets who added tallies to the scoreboard in the regular season affair.
Lynchburg claimed a 1-0 victory in their quarterfinal contest against Bridgewater with a goal from
Leilianis Irigoyen in the third minute of play. This was the fourth consecutive win for the Hornets, and continues their unbeaten streak that dates back to Oct. 2. Lynchburg is now 8-0-1 in their last nine contests.
The Marlins come into this match after taking down sixth seed Shenandoah in their quarterfinal match. VWU opened that game with a 3-0 lead, despite a late two goal rally from the Hornets with under 20 minutes to go, the Marlins were able to hold on for the win. With the third most goals in the ODAC this season, VWU is led by sophomore forward, Shyenne Diaz, with six goals of her own this year.
The winner of this match will earn a spot in the championship game on Sunday against the winner of Washington & Lee and Randolph-Macon.
