Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer squad is looking to defend its ODAC title in the championship matchup against Washington and Lee on Saturday, November 9 at 5 p.m. at Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets erupted for a season-high five goals in a semifinal win over Hampden-Sydney to advance to their second straight ODAC championship game. Last season, Lynchburg took down W&L in the ODAC championship game, 3-1. Fifth year
Zach Whelan scored twice and graduate
Manzi Shalita bagged one to help the Hornets earn the conference title.
These two sides squared up on the pitch earlier this season on October 19, which finished with a 1-1 draw. Lynchburg took the lead in the at the beginning of the second half following a goal from sophomore
Chris Wiley. The Generals' Ryan Sharpe scored the equalizer in the 71st minute and the squads concluded with one conference point apiece.
Shalita has been the marquee man on offense as of late, scoring a goal in each of the team's last four games. Defensively, the Hornets have yet to allow a goal in the ODAC postseason, bringing that stout defense from the regular season into the games where it matters most.
Following the ODAC title game, Lynchburg will await the NCAA tournament selection show on Monday, November 11.
