Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's lacrosse team got contributions from 16 different scorers and reached 20 goals for the first time since April 23, 2023 in a 21-6 victory over visiting Guilford Wednesday night.
Spencer Vandenberg led all scorers with three goals and his second hat trick of the season. Dylan Wolfe tallied three of the team's nine assists in addition to a goal to lead the team with four points.
The 11th-ranked Hornets overpowered the Quakers early, getting out to an 8-0 start through the first 15 minutes. The Lynchburg defense forced nine of Guilford's 32 turnovers during that frame.
After putting up four more goals to start the second quarter, the Lynchburg defense surrendered three to Guilford to allow the visitors to close the half on a run.
Lynchburg answered early in the third quarter with another quick 5-0 run to effectively put the game out of reach.
Lynchburg saw playing time from all four of its goalkeepers for the third time this year with Tyler Hadley getting the win and three of the four recording a save apiece.
Lynchburg sent four to the faceoff X where none were better than Riley Frankel (7-11) who led the Lynchburg faceoff squad to an 18-31 mark (58%).
The Hornets split 16 caused turnovers between 15 different players to notch a season-high in that category while holding Guilford to 12-25 on the clear (48%). Lynchburg went 17-20 (85%) to better its season average.
Darren Palma scooped up six ground balls to lead the team to a season-best 56 pick-ups: an effort that secured nearly 60% of the loose balls in the game.
Lynchburg (6-4, 3-0 ODAC) improved to 3-0 at home and has outscored its opponents on Shellenberger Field 52-15 ahead of its CODE date with Washington and Lee Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m.
The Hornets and the Generals are separated by one spot in the latest USILA National Coaches' Poll and were tied atop the preseason ODAC coaches' poll after meeting in the ODAC title game last season. Neither has lost a conference game this year.
