Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team fell to Christopher Newport 13-5 on Tuesday afternoon.
Quinn Madden homered in the first inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit. Madden hit his ninth homer of the season and drove home Benton Jones in the process. Jones homered nine times as a freshman last season.
The Hornets doubled their lead with a pair of doubles from Gavin Collins and Joe Munitz and rode that two-run lead until the eighth.
CNU, the 10th-ranked team in Division III, cut down the lead in the eighth, then hung 10 runs on the Hornets in the ninth to steal the win on the road.
Lynchburg wrapped up the regular season with 25 wins and hosts Bridgewater for a three-game series in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament beginning Friday, May 3.
