Box Score Union, N.J. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team was knocking on the door all match, but could not bury a shot against Stockton as the final result in the squad's first match of the Kean Kickoff Tournament resulted in a scoreless draw on Friday afternoon.
The inaugural match of the season for the Hornets (0-0-1) finished without a goal for either side. Although no shots fell for Lynchburg, they were knocking all throughout the 90-minute contest as the team tallied 14 shots on goal to Stockton's one.
Forwards
Meghan Lauder and
Sejal Wellington peppered the cage with four and three shots on goal, respectively. The defense stayed stout throughout the matchup, led by backer
Haleigh Casey who was on the pitch for all 90 minutes of action. Goalkeeper
Kate Shepherd amassed just one save in the affair, but that was enough to secure the first shutout of the season.
Lynchburg stays undefeated heading into its second match of the season tomorrow, Saturday, August 31. The Hornets are set to face the host of the tournament, Kean, at 1 p.m. to close out the Kean Kickoff Tournament.
