Men's Soccer Set to Host Catholic

Lynchburg, Va. - The Hornets men's soccer team (1-1-2) returns to Shellenberger Field tomorrow, September 21, for a date with the Catholic Cardinals (2-4).

This will be the third meeting all-time between the two programs. Catholic has claimed the victory in both of these affairs, including a 2-0 win in their most recent match two seasons ago.

Lynchburg enters this contest coming off of their most impressive win of the season. In their home opener, Lynchburg controlled throughout against William Peace. Two Hornet goals within the first four minutes of the match, along with another later on in the first half, led to a dominant 3-0 victory.

The Cardinals come to the Hill City currently on a two-game losing skid, shut out in both matches against Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport.

Catholic, and first-year head coach Connor Kennan, has already notched a signature win this season taking down #3 Washington & Lee in Lexington. It was their first ranked win since 2012.

Despite losing last season's conference player of the year, Gordie Bernlohr, the Cardinals return four of its top five goal contributors. Additionally, UNC Greensboro transfer, Holden Woodings has led the offensive attack thus far with three goals through their six games.

The two squads are set to take the pitch at 2 pm for what should be a thrilling contest.
